Tap Tap Thursday Presents “Opposite of Adults” by CHIDDY BANG!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Hey Philly! You done done it again!
You have selflessly given us so much great music in the past: Schoolly D. Hall and Oates. G. Love. The Motownphilly movement of Boyz II Men. The Hooters. The soundtrack to Mannequin.
And that one guy, I can’t remember his name. From West Philadelphia, born and raised. On the playground is where he spent most of his days. Moved to Bel-Air. Later got jiggy with it. And then saved the planet from an alien invasion. Several times.
Now dear Philadelphia, you have given birth to another dope-beat-dropping, mad-lyric-spitting, genre-bending musical sensation: CHIDDY BANG!  The undisputed kings of the underground party jam, Chiddy Bang are blowing up the charts and ushering in a new movement in the world of alternative rap. This dynamic duo is laying it all in the groove, combing elements of electronic, pop, and afro-beat into their songs, while using wildly creative samples from MGMT, Passion Pit, and Tom Waits.
At just 19 years of age, frontman Chiddy Anamege and DJ Xaphoon Jones are being heralded as the future of hip-hop, and are working their butts off to fulfill that honor. Take a look at a portion of their upcoming tour schedule to get a taste of how hard they’re after it:
Oct 4 – Parklife @ Botanic Park, Adelaide, Australia
Oct 7 – Verizon Arena, Manchester, NH, USA
Oct 8 – Chi Phi, Athens, GA, USA
Oct 9 – Dunkin Donuts Center, Providence, RI, USA
Oct 10 – Solus w/ Tinie Tempeh, Cardiff, UK
Oct 12 – Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, USA
Oct 14 – O2 w/ Tinie Tempeh, Newcastle, UK
Now geography wasn’t my strongest subject, but I don’t think any of those cities make a straight line. Either their blind booking agent is routing the tour with a dartboard, or these guys have successfully cloned themselves! So do them a favor: Get out and see their roof-raising live show, and bring them a bottle of water so they don’t dehydrate on all those plane flights.

Tap Tap Thursday Presents “Impossible” by ANBERLIN!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

The Band: ANBERLIN

The Song: IMPOSSIBLE, from their upcoming album “Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place,” out September 7th, 2010.

The Deal: OK, here’s the deal. Ever since we grabbed this track from iTunes, we can’t stop listening to this song. It is having a deep, profound effect on the Tapulous office.

There’s just something about a song that kicks off with a fast-picking delayed guitar line that hits us deep in the chest, and makes our heart race like the first-time thrill of a school-yard crush. Once “Impossible” plunges that joyous, wild, and unpredictable feeling into your consciousness, you’re going to find yourself acting out in completely unrestrained and uninhibited ways, just as we have here at Tap Tap HQ.

There have been a lot more top-down drives to the coast, edging up the speed on Highway 1 while chasing down sunsets. More employees have been spotted running full-speed through vibrant green grassy fields, fresh with the morning dew, singing at the top of their lungs. More phone calls are being secretly made to ex-girlfriends and boyfriends, trying to recapture a lost fire and passion that is being stoked by the raw emotion of this song.

For those of you not in the know, there will definitely be a “Where have these guys been all my life?” moment with this song. Since their humble punk-rock beginnings in Central Florida, the 5 members of Anberlin have ground out a steady climb to international success, earning a legion of dedicated fans along the way. With the help of producer Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine), Anberlin has taken it to the next level on their new album, and are on the cusp of super-stardom. When asked about the possible impact of the new album, lead singer Stephen Christian replied, “I feel like we’re on the brink of something… either world domination or destruction, but either way we’re on the brink.”

But wait! There’s more! Submit a score above 75,000 on “Impossible” by next Wednesday, Aug 18 and you’ll be eligible to win an iPod Touch or a signed copy of “Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place.” As always, only US residents 13 years of age or older are eligible- see full contest rules here.

Tap Tap Revenge Celebrates The Release Of The New Movie SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD!

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Attention people of Tap Tap Revenge: Consider yourself warned. On Friday the 13th, your whole world will be rocked.

That’s because the coolest, most mind-bending movie of the last thousand years is being released into theaters everywhere: SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. In case you’re reading this from your home under a rock, let’s go over the facts: Michael Cera plays the title character, a garage-band bass player who falls hard for the girl of his dreams, Ramona. But before he can have her, he must defeat her 7 evil exes, who have banded together to stop him. It’s jam-packed with over-the-top action, comic book art, and vintage video-game graphics.

This is THE must-see movie of the year. Do yourself a solid. Head over to scottpilgrimthemovie.com and check out the all trailers, including special video remixes by DJ Osymyso, cast profiles, and more. And you can download the FREE game “Pilgrim‘s Punch-out” for your iPhone/iPad.

And of course, the movie has a simply amazing soundtrack, featuring Beck, Frank Black, Metric, and more. We’ve grabbed one of the standout songs, “Scott Pilgrim” by Canadian indie-poppers PLUMTREE, as the center of our insanely humongous contest, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. TAP TAP REVENGE!

THE CONTEST:
Every day, there will be a new theme for the featured track in Tap Tap Revenge to match one of the evil exes Scott must defeat in the movie. The top 3 players from each day will qualify to participate in a LIVE BATTLE at the end of the week. They will fight to the finish, and when the dust settles, we will crown a winner and shower them with prizes: a signed Plumtree album, a t-shirt like Michael Cera wore in the movie, and a shiny new $250 iTunes Gift Card. Check out the official rules here. Apple is not a sponsor of this contest.

Meanwhile over on Facebook, you’ll vote on which of the evil exes YOU love to hate the most. The highest scoring one will have that theme permanently attached to the track.

Now let’s meet the EVIL EXES Scott must face…

The first of Scott’s furious foes, Matthew Patel is the original evil ex. Despite his menacing guy-liner and angular emo hairstyle, he stil has the common decency to email you a warning of your impending butt-kicking.
Lucas Lee: Backed up by his morphing gang of stunt doubles, this meat-headed Hollywood hotshot’s desire to pummel Scott is eclipsed by only one thing: his overwhelming love of himself.
The 3rd blast from Ramona’s past, Todd Ingram is the bassist for Clash At Demonhead, the more popular rival band of Scott’s group Sex Bob-omb. With what weapons will he battle: his fists, or his telekinetic mind powers?
They’re not all ex-boyfriends. Meet the scorned Roxy Richter, a half-ninja armed with a razor-edged belt and a bad attitude. Now that Ramona is no longer bi-curious, Roxy is bi-furious.
So it turns out Ramona dated twins. AT THE SAME TIME! Meet Kyle Katayanagi, the first half of the diabolical Katayanagi duo. A super-charged electro artist, Scott better watch out for that sonic boom.
The fiendish other half of the Katayanagi twins, Ken Katayanagi has his sights set on slicing up Scott. When this perilous pair crank their custom-made amps up to 11, you’ll know that it’s on like Donkey Kong!
The leader of the League of Evil Exes, Gideon Gordon Graves is so bad-ass he has his own secret lair, complete with a pyramid throne. If Scott can defeat this final former flame, Ramona will surely be his!

Tap Tap Thursday Presents “45” by Ozomatli, Plus Free New Online Music!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Let’s dip into the Tap Tap Mailbag, shall we…

Q: “Dear Tapulous, how do you come up with all your brilliant ideas?” Walter, Anaheim CA.

A: Good question, and here’s a true story about our latest development. Here at Tapulous HQ, we pull in the best and brightest (and most beautiful) people from all over the world to come slave away on develop our super-apps. Since it is World Cup season, we have the TV going 24/7 in the lounge, with each international team represented by their own employee cheering section. And as is the inevitability with the tournament, there comes a moment when every team tragically loses, followed by an anguished cry of “Change the channel!” directed at the television.

After nearly a month of “Change the channel, change the channel!” echoing through the hallways in a variety of accents, those words sank subliminally into all our brains. So when Andrew asked “What’s next?” at this week’s development meeting, everyone screamed back in unison: “CHANGE THE CHANNEL!” And that’s what we decided to do. Brilliant, huh?

We’re happy to announce an ONLINE CHANNEL REMIX! Every online music channel will be getting 3 FRESH NEW FREE SONGS to challenge your skills and rock your world. Each day for the next 10 days, a different channel will be in the spotlight and receive an injection of killer new tracks.

To celebrate this massive musical makeover, we’re giving away a free download of “45 “by OZOMATLI, one of the featured bands on the Downtown Records channel. For over 15 years, Los Angeles’ own Ozomatli has been using their unique brand of multi-cultural, genre-colliding music to change the world, one note at a time. In 2007 they were named Cultural Ambassadors by the U.S. State Dept., a role which brought their vibrant, inspirational live show to all corners of the planet, including Nepal’s first-ever Western musical concert.

Download and play “45” by Ozomatli right now or check out the song on iTunes! Then head over to online channels and check out the changes! Many thanks to Downtown Records and all the online channel providers for the brand new influx of tunes!

Tapping on!

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: SUPERBAD (11:34) by Travie McCoy

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Alright Tap Tap fans, it’s a fresh new week, which means we’ve got another fresh new FREE featured track to bend your fingers and blow your mind. We’ve traveled right up to the cutting-edge to grab SUPERBAD (11:34) by Travie McCoy, and we’re absolutely certain you’re going to dig it.

How’s your summer going? Because no matter how good, chances are it’s not quite up to par with Travie’s. He’s decided to take a break from kicking butt as the lead singer of the Gym Class Heroes to release his own solo joint, and evidently he knows exactly what he’s doing. To prove that point, we give you SUPERBAD (11:34), a song so wildly original and sonically unique they’re having to invent new genres just to classify it, like emo-hop and trip-rock.

From the immediate hook of the opening delayed guitar line through the stuttering beats and lush choruses, Superbad (11:34) stuns you like a surreal dream, taking you on an epic aural journey into your own mind. It’s as if Robert Smith from the Cure’s son grew up listening to Linkin Park and A Tribe Called Quest, became a superhero, and recorded his own theme song.

You’ve gotta be loving Travie McCoy RIGHT NOW!  I mean c’mon, the guy changes names more often than most people change socks, from Travis to Shleprok and now Travie. In honor of his position as featured artist of the week, we are now officially Tap Tap Rebango.

In fact, we’re so psyched on him that we’re adding a Travie McCoy premium 2-pack to the Tap Tap Store, featuring “Need You” and the red-hot “Billionaire,” the song that’s launched a million YouTube tributes. Download it today, and enjoy the summer of Travie.
