Tap Tap Thursday Presents: “Ghosts” by Ladytron

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Ladytron

The Band: LADYTRON

The Jam: GHOSTS from the album “Velocifero”

There is a fast-spreading, ultra-contagious virus infecting the vast labyrinth of hallways at Tapulous World Headquarters. Once you begin working here, you are completely infected, with no known antidote or cure. The resulting disease? GENRE BLINDNESS!

See, we at Tap Tap HQ don’t hear music in terms of musical style. People tell us, “I only want to hear black metal! Or alt country! Or dubstep, nintendocore, or throat singing!” To which we say, “Hey baby, it’s all good! We love music, period. If it’s got a nice beat, and you can tap to it, we’ll get it in the game!” Just free your mind, and your fingers will follow.

A great example of that philosophy is this week’s track “GHOSTS” from UK electronic-rock trendsetters LADYTRON. Since their influential 2001 debut album “604,” this pristine foursome has used their museum-quality collection of vintage synthesizers to create sweeping pop narratives, and earned themselves a worldwide cult following. This week’s free feature track “Ghosts” immediately launches you into a hypnotic zone of bouncing tribal beats and slyly layered sonics. Lush with secretive vocals, tense harmonies, and skyrocketing vintage synth sounds, the track takes you on an ecstatically relentless ride you’ll never want to get off.

Get this week’s free track “Ghosts” by Ladytron NOW! Click HERE for TTR3 and HERE for TTR2. You must have our killer app installed, and be on your iPhone / iPod touch. Once you’re feeling sufficiently Ladytronic, tap on over to Ladytron.com, and get your groove on.

Be sure to give Anoesj a big shout out for assisting Ernest with his programming expertise in the Ladytron theme!

The Ladytrontest

“Why aren’t I winning the contests?” That is the question we get the most, besides “When is the Tap Tap Revenge breakfast cereal coming out, because I’m starving.”

First, the cereal is in Beta; as for the other question, the answer is, “Too much competition.” There are literally millions of people playing TTR now. The trick is to start disrupting other peoples’ games. Anytime you see anyone, anywhere, tapping a touch screen, give a tap on it yourself. If they’re playing TTR, it will surely mess up their perfect game. If they’re not playing, well…better safe than sorry.

Follow that tip, and the prize will be in the bag. Literally! This week’s LADYTRONTEST prizes are red Ladytron “Velocifero” cloth tote bags, stuffed with goodies like a “Ghosts” vinyl 7″ and Ladytron button packs. The Grand Prize winner will get all that plus the entire Ladytron catalog!

Here’s how to win:

It doesn’t get any easier than this. Download and play Ladytron’s “Ghosts” in Tap Tap Revenge 3. Each score you submit to the global scoreboard is added to your contest total. The player with the most total points at the end of the contest wins the grand prize. The next five players with the highest total are the runner up winners. You can play it as much as you want, on any difficulty, just remember – scores are only submitted on completed games!

The contest begins on Friday, February 19th at 12:01 AM and runs until Monday, February 22nd at 11:59 PM, Pacific Time. You must submit your scores in Tap Tap Revenge 3, while online, during the contest period for entry.

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: The Airborne Toxic Event – Wishing Well

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Airborne Toxic Event
The Band: THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT

The Jam: WISHING WELL, from their self-titled debut album.

Sometimes playing Tap Tap Revenge is social experience. You’re online, talking trash and dropping bombs, tapping out suckers left and right.

But sometimes, it’s a very intense, passionate affair, and you become Tap Tap Possessed. The song infiltrates your consciousness, and you visualize the music. Your fingers flawlessly find all the Tappers, your score rolls higher, and the fever builds. You decide to let dinner burn, or postpone sleep for another night, or retake the entire semester.

This week’s FREE track WISHING WELL is the perfect soundtrack for that magical game of TTR. Birthed in the Los Feliz area of L.A. in 2006, The Airborne Toxic Event are rapidly becoming indie-rock superstars, due their abundance of unapologetic emotion, undeniable melodies, and unrestrained talent. Moving beyond the rigid verse-chorus song structure, they’ve found a place where the songs create their own life, pulsing, pumping, and climbing to a powerful, cathartic release. In the year since their debut release, they’ve toured the world, taking the stage at Coachella, SXSW, Lollapallooza, and the Fuji Festival. These guys (and girl) are The Goods.

THE AIRBORNE TOXIC CONTEST

UPDATE: Congratulations to the winners! Grand prize: Chris_Liquid. Runner up winners: flipfox, iPANPAN, 2old2tap, griffindoor, dunniehigh.

Believe it or not, some people were upset there was no TTThursday track last week, despite the abundance of new free music available in the game itself. And we’re happy about that. It means the subliminal code in the graphics designed to get you desperately addicted to Tap Tap Revenge is working, and we will soon turn on our Tap Zombie Army.

But before that happens, we’re going to run this week’s give-away, THE AIRBORNE TOXIC CONTEST:

The Loot: Grand Prize: AN AUTOGRAPHED ELECTRIC GUITAR!! Runner up prizes: Five copies of the Airborne Toxic Event’s latest album, signed by the band.

How to win: It’s a battle contest! Send and play battles on Wishing Well by Airborne Toxic Event. Every battle you WIN counts as one contest entry. It doesn’t matter if you sent it or played it off the public battle board — any won battle on the featured track counts in this contest. At the end of the contest, we’ll take the top 50 players with the most entries and draw the winners.

The contest runs from Friday, January 1st at 12:01 AM PST through Tuesday, January 5th at 11:59 PM PST. You must complete all battles while online, during the contest period. Any battles played or sent outside the contest period will not be counted.

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: Five Finger Death Punch

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

The Band: FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH

Five Finger Death Match

The Song: WALK AWAY from the album “War Is The Answer”

Friends, let me ask you some questions: Have you worn out the Metallica, Godsmack, and Korn in TTR3? Have Thursdays been a bit “soft” for you lately? Would you rather live in a city made of shadows than one made of owls? Well step right up, because I’ve got the cure for what ails you, a big bottle of liquid metal to rock your foundation.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this week’s track is the foolproof solution to your light-rock doldrums; a vital, volatile voice of voracious, visceral, and simply volcanic Rock And Roll! Look no further, for coming straight at you is FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, and it’s going to get you right again. Winners of Metal Hammer Magazine’s Best New Band of 2009, 5FDP are a force to be reckoned with, and are proving that by climbing the charts and churning mosh pits around the world. Formed in 2005, this L.A.-based band features members of U.P.O., W.A.S.P., Motograter, and Anubis Rising. BE CAREFUL: this is not the song with which to introduce your grandmother to Tap Tap Revenge.

When you have been thoroughly rocked and need a break, head over to fivefingerdeathpunch.com and see what these guys are up to. I think the album cover of “War Is The Answer” might make a sweet wallpaper.

THE FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH CONTEST.

We all know Tap Tap Master DXChain has his own signature “DX Grip.” In honor of this week’s band, we had him work on developing a special “Five Finger Death Tap.” Unfortunately, the test track we gave him was 1.5X speed, and…it didn’t work out. We’re happy to say DX is healing perfectly, and the Tapulous Lab needed a fresh coat of paint anyway. Get your best grip in order, and bring it to this week’s contest:

“The Five Finger Death Room!” We’ve created a special online room for this week’s featured track. Get in there, meet some people, do a little chat, and then play a game. Every game completed is a point. Rack up as many points as you can. Every day we’ll award one prize to the top earner. At the end of the contest, we’ll draw the grand prize from the top 25 point earners. The contest runs all day Friday through Tuesday, Pacific Time. Simple, huh?

The 5 daily winners will receive an an autographed copy of “War Is The Answer.” One Grand Prize Winner will receive a special SKATEBOARD DECK SIGNED BY FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH! Nothing is more exciting than playing TTR and trying to skate down a bumpy sidewalk. Remember: always wear your helmet, and always put your iPhone in a titanium shell.

Joe Team), Monday – FirstiPodman (G.I. Joe Team), Bonus battle winners: Saturday – bmtran, Sunday – bpp, Wednesday – coffeeblack, Honorary winners: mr0guy, DisDude1

The Band: Papa RoachgijoeANDcobra325

The Song: Last Resort

The Year: 1964, when the first G.I. Joe was placed on toy store shelves. This was also the first year of Tap Tap Revenge Version Negative 5.0, available only on Texas Instruments calculator and abacus. Both found instant popularity, and survived 45 years into the future. Now in 2009, Tap Tap Revenge is the top app on a hand-held supercomputer, and G.I. Joe is being rebooted with cutting-edge tech, exotic locations, and modern adventure in a new movie that truly rocks. Hard.

The Tapulous Lab has been infiltrated by members of both Team G.I. Joe and the Cobra Commander himself, who helped design and program this week’s special themed track. They scoured the Tapulous music files, and chose LAST RESORT from PAPA ROACH, one of the hardest-hitting, chart-topping smashes of all time, and the perfect soundtrack for the struggle between these two sides of good and evil. Then they each loaded their different logos and characters into our mainframe, and you get to choose which team and graphics to play!

The result is a raucous, dynamic game that brings you into the world of G.I. Joe and the mood of the movie, energized by the pulse and stomp of Papa Roach, our first repeat Tap Tap Thursday artists.

THE G.I. JOE CONTESTS

The battle lines have been drawn, and now you must choose: Are you Team Joe, or are you Cobra? The stakes are so high, we’re giving you 2 CONTESTS to make your decision!

CHOOSE ON TAP TAP REVENGE: Download the track, and choose to play LAST RESORT for Team G.I. Joe or Team Cobra. Every day is a new points battle between the two teams, with each soldier adding to the accumulated total points for their side. At the end of the day, the team with the most collective points wins. From that victorious team, we’ll draw one random daily winner of an autographed copy of Papa Roach’s new album “Metamorphosis.” The first battle is on Thursday July 30th, then each day until the final battle on Monday, August 3rd.

Tuesday morning at 8AM PDT, we’ll take the top 20% of players who submitted the most points for the winning team, and draw out the ultimate grand prize: 2 TICKETS TO THE SPECIAL RED CARPET PRESENTATION OF “G.I. JOE : THE RISE OF COBRA” at the world-famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA on August 8th. Maybe they’ll cast your fingers in the sidewalk out front, next to R2D2!

CHOOSE WITH PARAMOUNT AND G.I. JOE: Go to the G.I. Joe website through the Tap Tap feed (or tap here). Enter your mobile number, and choose Joe or Cobra. Then, answer the trivia questions you receive as SMS messages to accumulate points, climb the G.I. Joe leaderboard, and win special mobile prizes including wallpapers and ringtones. At the end of the contest, one player will be randomly selected for the $3000 GRAND PRIZE!

These are your missions. Choose your side, and battle to victory!

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: Phoenix

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Le Groupe: PHOENIX

La Chanson: 1901 from the album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”

La Revolution! PHOENIX is no longer a city in Arizona. Phoenix is no longer a mythical firebird. After playing this week’s TTR track, when you hear someone say Phoenix, you will only think of the French rock band and their pop-perfect hit song “1901.”

Don’t know Phoenix? Get to know them!
- Formed in the late 90’s in Versailles, they began as a backing band for Air, and were contemporaries of Daft Punk.
- You’ve heard them in the Sofia Coppola movies “Lost in Translation” and “Marie Antoinette”, in which they make a cameo.
- For the new album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,” they recorded over 1000 pieces of music during the last 2 years.
- They spent a large chunk of the album’s budget renting out a hotel room in NYC, and a boat on the Seine in Paris for inspiration. Not studio time or hard drives, just “inspiration.”

In short, they are very cool. With “1901,” they take distinctly French synth sounds and rhythms, prop them up with multiple hooks and buoyant melodies, and emerge with a powerful piece of pure musical bliss. Watch the video at myspace.com/wearephoenix and wearephoenix.com. Or catch them on their culture-shock tour this year, where they’ll be going from the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium to the Austin City Limits Fest, with some Jakarta and Tokyo thrown in. Zut alors!

THE PHOENIX CONTEST

UPDATE: Congrats to the winners! Grand Prize winner: Chris_Liquid. Runner-ups: kyasa085, ocethawsm, furry321, pbfreek, timaster

You can be a phoenix with Phoenix. You can rise up from the ashes of your terrible scores and entries from previous TTThursdays, and soar to victory in the Phoenix “1901″ Contest.

This is a MAX POINTS contest. Play “1901″ from Friday July 10th at 12:01PM PDT to Sunday, July 12th at 11:59PM PDT, and every point you submit to the global scoreboard will be added to your personal bucket. At the end of the contest, we’ll take the top 50 players with the most points, and draw the winners. The remaining list of winners will be burned, and once again you will be in the ashes.

5 runner-up winners will receive a Phoenix album and a poster autographed by lead singer Thomas Mars and guitarist Christian Mazzalai. One grand prize winner wins TWO VIP TICKETS to see Phoenix live on their US tour in September (some exclusions apply).

Bonne chance, and vive la Tap!

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: Placebo

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Placebo - Battle For The Sun

Placebo - Battle For The Sun

The band: PLACEBO

The jam: FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH from the long-awaited new album “Battle For The Sun.”

HEY! I know what you’re doing. You’re scrolling down this email right now and clicking the link to get this track into your TTR. It’s O.K, I understand, we all do it. Just be sure to come back and find out why “For What It’s Worth” is a perfect Tap track.

Alright, are you back? Awesome song, huh? Let me refresh you on PLACEBO. British band, formed in London in 1994. They’ve sold over 10 million copies of their six albums, with hits including “Pure Morning” and “Nancy Boy.” The new album “Battle For The Sun” comes 3 years after their last release, and they love to play live. Head over to placeboworld.co.uk or myspace.com/placebo and look at that tour schedule. When they set out, they hand their tour bus driver a globe, not a map.

And how about that track? Are you loving it? FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH is a killer Tap Tap Revenge track, and let me tell you why.

1. It moves: When a song starts with fast 8th-note guitar/bass pulsing, get your fingers ready. Because 16th notes on the high-hat can’t be far behind. Which leads us to…
2. You can lock into it: The tempo gets your blood pumping faster, and you start anticipating how all the musical elements fit together. When they hit the big breaks and the Super-Mario/carnival-music bridge, you already know how the targets and shakes are going to come.
3. Tap-appropriate lyrics: “I always aim to please.” In Tap Tap Revenge, you aim for the targets with your fingers! “I tear the sun in three.” There are THREE rails in TTR!!!! This is like Angels and Demons!

Alright, maybe not so much on the lyrics. But go see for yourself…

The Placebo Most Points Contest

UPDATE: Congrats to the winners!! — Grand prize winner: felpscott. Runner up winners: Kratos111, nechunra, leekid101, skill432, raainmann.

The Prizes: VIP tickets to a Placebo show on the upcoming fall tour, and 5 autographed copies of a Placebo album.

How to win: This weekend, we got a MOST POINTS CONTEST. Your goal is to get as many points as you can, as much as you can. Every score you submit to the global leaderboard on Placebo’s track is added to your personal contest bucket.

At the end of the contest we’ll add up all your points and draw the VIP ticket winner from the TOP 50 players with the most points in their bucket. Then, we’ll draw five more winners from the top 50 to receive an autographed Placebo album.

The contest begins Friday, June 19th at noon PDT, and ends at 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 21st PDT. You must submit your scores to the global leaderboard, while online, to be counted in the contest.

Tappers Idol Finals

Friday, June 5th, 2009

The Semi-Finals are over, and we’re down to the 3 finalists. Somewhere out there in Tap Tap Land a star is waiting to be born. Hopefully they are rehearsing for the impending success: Practicing autographs. Throwing TVs out the window. Sitting in a ‘91 Ford Econoline van for 12 straight hours. Finding the dirtiest room with the filthiest couch and pretending they’re backstage at every club in America.

We started out with 100+ tracks from all around the Tapulous community. A quarter of a million votes later, you picked three of the best songs from the crowd and gave them a chance at tap tap-stardom.

Here are your finalists (in no particular order):

- “Man To Mannequin,” by Conditions. Recently named one of the Top 21 unsigned artists of 2008 by PureVolume.com, Conditions is already a big player in the music scene. Check them out later this summer on the Vans Warped Tour. Yea, the WARPED TOUR!

- “Lies,” by 51/50s. With band members Rikki Lee (Vox), Ollie Cook (Guitar), Billy Baker (Drums), and Jason Gale (Bass), they’ve got the perfect vibe to prove they ARE Rock-N-Roll. Keep an eye out for their full album, Dangerous State Of Mind.

- “All I Wanna Do,” by Lunar Fiction. Recognize Lunar Fiction? They’re the very first winner of Tappers Idol, back for seconds. You must love their music — they got the votes to show it!

Go grab these tracks in Tap Tap Revenge 2. Rate each of them through the Buzz page after playing the track. If you love it, give it 5 stars. You feel so-so? 3 stars. Hate it? Give it zero or 1 star…

Tappers Idol finals end Monday — the track with the highest overall star rating wins!

Good luck to the artists!!

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: Rise Against

Thursday, June 4th, 2009
Rise Against - Appeal To Reason

Rise Against - Audience of One

It’s: RISE AGAINST

It’s: AUDIENCE OF ONE from the new album “Appeal To Reason

It’s about time we got some free punk rock on a Thursday! We wheeled 4 Marshall stacks into the Tapulous shop, cranked ‘em up, and let our programmers loose. They gave us back AUDIENCE OF ONE from RISE AGAINST for Tap Tap Revenge 2.5, and even threw in a super special custom theme based on the powerful, engaging video for the track. The song is a TTR classic, bound for the top of our charts, and headphones are a must to fully appreciate it. And I’m talking the big roller-disco earmuff style, not those wimpy white buds you got for free.

Here’s what you have to look forward to in AUDIENCE OF ONE: A massive wall of guitars screaming out a call to arms. Driving, throbbing drumbeats that switch gears into double time for the choruses. Poignant, thought-provoking lyrics that make you smarter for just having heard them. Huge hits on the downbeat, the kind that cause cracked touchscreens.

If you don’t know Rise Against (and based on the requests, most of you do), you soon will. Here’s the cheat sheet: Formed in Chicago in 1999, Rise Against started out releasing albums on independent label Fat Wreck Chords and playing the Warped Tour before signing with Geffen. “Appeal To Reason” is their 5th studio release, and sees them developing more mainstream song-writing skills on top their punk rock roots. Named PETA’s “Best Animal Friendly Band,” they are all strict vegetarians, and give their time, music, and passion to a variety of political and social causes. They’re out on the road with Rancid this summer, hitting more cities than the swine flu. Check them at riseagainst.com or myspace.com/riseagainst.

The Rise Against Contest:

Back in the not too distant past, the dark ages of the iPhone, playing Tap Tap Revenge was a lonely experience. Your all-time best, your 100%, your full combo was seen by a true audience of one: you. But we have entered a golden age with TTR2.5, and with challenges, battles, and online games, the world is your competitive oyster. To emphasize this, we give you the RISE AGAINST CONTEST.

Each day from today, Thursday June 4th, through Monday June 8th, were giving away A PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE RISE AGAINST SHOW OF YOUR CHOICE! On top of that, one of the winners gets an AUTOGRAPHED RISE AGAINST SKATEBOARD! To win, launch the Tap Tap Revenge app and choose to play online. Then get into one of the Rise Against Contest Rooms. Win a game in the room, and you’ll have a chance to be drawn for a pair of the free daily tickets and the autographed board.

Tap Tap Thursday Presents: Asher Roth

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
Asher Roth - Asleep In The Bread Isle

Asher Roth - Asleep In The Bread Aisle

You asked for: ASHER ROTH

You got: LARK ON MY GO-KART from the smash album “ASLEEP IN THE BREAD AISLE”

The Tweets have spoken. You told us on Twitter that you wanted Asher Roth, so we went out and got Asher Roth. We are excited to bring you the chart-climbing new single LARK ON MY GO-KART off his hit debut album “Asleep In The Bread Aisle.”

Not familiar with Asher Roth? Not to worry, neither was Grandma Tapulous, who happened to be in the Test Lab the day we secured this song for Tap Tap Revenge 2.5. We handed the iPhone to Grandma, helped her turn it right-side up, and loaded up “Lark.” Then we got out the dry-erase board, and made two lists for her:

ASHER ROTH IS:

- The mad-lyricist behind the smash hit “I Love College.” – From Morrisville, PA, a suburb of Philly.
- The guy who free-styled an audition for Jay-Z, which helped lead to his record deal with Universal Records.
- The kind of person who name drops Teddy Ruxpin, Tim Duncan, and Bob Saget in LARK ON MY GO-KART.
- Influenced by the Roots, OutKast, and Notorious B.I.G.
- Happy with comparisons to Beck, in both style and pop-culture awareness
- Interested in dating Miss Great Britain.

ASHER ROTH ISN’T:

- Censoring himself.
- Going to bed early.
- Trying to rap about something he doesn’t know. For Asher it’s not rims and guns, but Mario Kart and blumpkins.

After the last ball had disappeared from the screen, we asked Grandma what she thought. She replied, “Well, I don’t know what all this Eminem comparison fuss is all about. Asher is killing it in his own style, and I hear more MC 900 Foot Jesus or Cee-Lo in his music. I was hitting all those fuzzed-out keyboard parts, racking up crazy points, and that throbbing groove makes it a perfect Tap Tap track. Cookies for everyone!” She also beat us all on the Hard setting. That’s why she’s Grandma Tapulous.

Be sure to check out Asher Roth’s new album Asleep In The Bread Aisle on iTunes, and get into Asher on MySpace or at thedailykush.com.

The Asher Roth Contest:

UPDATE: Congrats to the winners! Grand prize winner: Maverick05. Runner-up winners: weeweekittyboy, b1nkyb0y, thomasaelliott, gagegrishaw, and theu4life219

As always we’ve got more great swag from a great artist headed your way. Grand Prize: One winner gets an Asher Roth merchandise pack which includes an autographed copy of Asleep In The Bread Aisle, t-shirt, poster, and an authentic Asher Roth red-plastic cup. Then, five more winners get autographed copies of Asleep In The Bread Aisle.

How to win: It’s all about creating BUZZ! Anything you can think of is fair game – start off by giving it a star rating through “Buzz” on the post game screen. Send “Lark On My Go-Kart” battles to friends through friends@taptaprevenge.com, post your high score screenshots to Twitter (add @tapulous so we know), blog about it, talk about it — ANYTHING to make some noise! But don’t spam, nobody likes that…

Let us know how you BUZZ’d “Lark On My Go-Kart” by sending us a message on Twitter (@tapulous). Don’t have a Twitter account? No worries, download Twinkle and send it to @tapulous.

The contest begins NOW and runs until Sunday May 31st at 11:59PM PDT. The winners are the top 6 players who make the most BUZZ!
