A busy day by Bart

June 5th, 2009

A ton of things going on right now here at Tapulous. We can barely keep track of them all ourselves, so let’s sum them up for you:

  1. Dave Matthews Band Revenge is on sale through Sunday, for only $3.99. Apple is giving the game a ton of love on the App Store – and for good reason: gamers love it!. Get it here.
  2. Tappers Idol II.  More than 100 artists sent in their music, hundreds of thousands of votes have been cast, and we’ve now moved on to the FINALS round. Download and play the 3 finalists in Tap Tap Revenge 2.5. After you finish the game, cast your vote from the BUZZ button. In another week or so we’ll announce the Tappers Idol II Winner;
  3. All weekend we’re running contests in Tap Tap Revenge 2.5 again. There’s a big contest for Rise Against, and we’ll have special Battle contests on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. And contests = prizes of course, so make sure to play along!
  4. Twinkle 1.5 just launched today. Still free, and now you can post (and read) updates to Facebook as well as Twitter. The new version also fixes a number of pesky bugs. In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out advertising in the free version, and we’ll be experimenting with ways to keep the conversation in Nearby a little cleaner without killing the fun. Get it here. A premium, ad-free version is just around the corner;
  5. Rise Against, “Audience of One” is this week’s featured track in Tap Tap Revenge 2.5. Make sure to check it out – it’s an AWESOME track! In keeping with our new tradition, this Tap Tap Thursday track comes with its own theme;
  6. Speaking of custom themes: as a little gift for the weekend Bryan has done an all-new theme for Pitbull’s “Calle Ocho”. If you’re a long-time follower of Tap Tap Revenge, you know that we’re trendsetters (we discovered 3Oh!3 about six months before that song hit the Billboard charts!).  Three weeks after we featured it, Calle Ocho is the #1 ringtone on iTunes, #1 on the KissFM playlist and generally everywhere – and now it’s even more fun in Tap Tap Revenge – so make sure to download it again to get the new theme. With that, we now have 8 FREE custom themes in Tap Tap Revenge 2.5! And of course you can purchase the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Dance and Nine Inch Nails editions and import those premium tracks, with themes and all, right into TTR 2.5;
  7. We’re all looking forward to Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, which kicks off on Monday. There’s been a ton of buzz and press coverage in the run-up to the conference, and Tapulous is quoted in BusinessWeek, the New York Times, Wired, CNet, and UPI this week, among others.
  8. On Monday, we experienced a server hiccup. Some tracks downloaded that day may have been corrupted. If you have problems with downloads from that day, simply delete them by swiping them, then download again.

Next week’s going to be only slightly less hectic:
  • On Monday we are co-hosting one of the big WWDC parties, at Harlot in San Francisco. Make sure to join us if you’re over 21 and in San Francisco;
  • We’ll have some other cool news next week that we can’t tell you about just yet. Sssssh!

Want to be the first one to hear about the Tapulous and Tap Tap Revenge news as it happens? Make sure to follow @tapulous on Twitter! If you enjoy Tap Tap Revenge, please head over to the App Store and leave a rating or review.

Finally, it is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our good friend, advisor and investor Rajeev Motwani, who passed away today. We will miss you, Rajeev – the Valley just lost a truly exceptional person.

    R.I.P Rajeev Motwani :(

    Are you guys gonna be at WWDC to show off the features of iPhone 3.0 via TTR3 ;) ?
    Are you guys thinking of giving don’t trust me a theme? It would be awesome!!

    Tap On!!

  2. I hope the price is right for the paid version of Twinkle otherwise you’re going to lose the fan base you created… I honestly think anything more than $1.99 (realistically .99c would be perfect) and you will be shooting yourself in the foot! hah

    And the censoring of ‘bad words’ is ridiculous, there needs to be a option to turn that on and off. Or tie it into the age restriction settings in OS v3.x – I can understand you wanting to stop all the dumb kids posting naked pictures of themselves… but censoring words? Fail.

    Otherwise, I love how 1.5 looks and feels. Great improvement from the previous version.

  3. @josh Yes, the premium version will be in that price range. Surely you understand that we need some way of paying the bills. Re: swear filters, we are planning to make changes today based on feedback.

    Why’d you guys change the online ranks? Or is my Tap Tap just glitched? I used to have an Extreme symbol now it has been replaced with three stars.

  5. @Bart Sounds good! Looking forward to checking that out.

    Some advice, I would kill the ads for right now until the paid version is offered in the store. TwitterFon fell victim to a TON of negative press because of that, Apple didn’t approve both versions at the same time (even though they were sent in at the same time!) and people went nuts over the ads in the free version, it was sorta ridiculous the way people reacted.

    What other features are planned with the paid version besides it being ad free?

  6. @josh, we turned the ads off early on yesterday.

    @kalinskie, examining.

  7. @bart Oh really? Good movie sir! I haven’t launched it since the update haha

    So any other features planned for the paid version besides no ads? ;)

  8. Oh no, what happenned to Rajeev?

    Lol, my extreme star changed to 2 stars XD. 2186 score.

    And btw I love the new pitbull theme :D Cant wait to see more themes (hopefully) in the future!

  10. Can you PLEASE make a simple plan edition like you have done with nine inch nails and coldplay PLEASE!

  11. Props on the new Twinkle version! The option to turn off map mode is great — I hate when apps autorotate on me just because I’m not holding my phone “straight enough.”

    One BIG thing in the new version, though. The “Report user” function NEEDS some kind of “Are you sure?” prompt. I’ve mistakenly reported users when my finger slipped, when I almost dropped (and just caught!) my phone, and even when I’m reaching across the screen with the phone in one hand (phone in right hand on someone’s profile page, reach with right thumb for the Back button.). Just a simple Yes/No would do it.

    Other than that, great work, and best of luck with the paid version!

    I think TTR Black Eyed Peas is a good idea :)

Add your two cents!
