Getting started with Tap Tap Revenge 2.5 by Bart
May 23rd, 2009
Well done! You’ve installed Tap Tap Revenge 2.5, and now you’re ready to have fun. Here’s what you need to know.
The basics
- Go get some free music. Make sure your iPhone/touch is online. Then, from the main menu, click on Free Tracks to find 200-odd FREE tracks. Check back frequently: every Thursday we feature a new free smash hit.
- Game basics. Tap Tap Revenge is about tapping and shaking to the beat. You TAP when the balls hit the target zone at the bottom of the screen. When you see an arrow come down, SHAKE to the beat as the arrow hits the target. Shake it like you would hit a drum stick – left, forward, or right.
That’s about it. Not too bad, right? Tap Tap Revenge is about having fun with tracks you dig.
The “advanced” stuff
- Don’t forget to Submit your scores to our leaderboards. The first time you click on the Leaderboard button, we’ll prompt you to automatically submit your scores for you. We’ll also prompt you to set up a “Tapulous account” – eg give yourself a nickname.
- After you’ve played a song, you can Challenge your friends to beat you at the game you just played. Just click on the Challenge button in the post-game screen. We’ll take you into the email app, and there you can type in the email address of any of your friends who have (or should have) Tap Tap Revenge. If you know the Tapulous nickname of the person you want to Challenge, you can send email to that-nickname@taptaprevenge.com (challenge our CEO by sending mail to bartd@taptaprevenge.com, for instance).
- Try Playing Online. Just pick a room and give it a try. If you’re falling behind during online play, you’ll occasionally get catchup balls that give you a chance to, well, catch-up. Those balls are in special colors.
- On the main menu, below the featured button, there’s “the feed“. This is where you’ll find personal notices, alerts that your Challenges have been completed, and even online chat rooms.
- Tournaments and prizes. There’s always something going on in Tap Tap Revenge and often there are prizes attached. To make sure you don’t miss out on the fun, boot up the game every day and check the feed. Follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/tapulous) and subscribe to the Tap Tap Reporter from tapulous.com/blog.
The new stuff
If you’re an old hand at Tap Tap Revenge, you’ll notice that 2.5 sports a new look, is faster, and quite stable. But the new release also packs some cool new features.
- Special Themes. Each song can now have its own theme. You’ll be seeing a lot of new colors in the coming months. To kick things off, we’re offering special themes for a half dozen of the most popular tracks in the game, including All-American Rejects (Gives You Hell), Pitbull (Calle Ocho), Dave Matthews Band (Funny The Way It Is), Coldplay (Lovers In Japan), Nine Inch Nails (Discipline) and Daft Punk (Technologic). You’ll need to download them again if you already had them installed. Just go to Free Tracks and you’ll find them all in Staff Picks.
- A default theme that helps you play better. Have you been wanting to get higher scores? Now the game helps you. Pay close attention to the tap feedback by the targets. If the target turns red, you missed. Orange means a near-miss. Blues are so-so. Green means you nailed it. You get the most points for greens.
- Premium tracks. If you love Tap Tap Revenge, chances are you’ve already bought Dave Matthews Band Revenge, Tap Tap Coldplay, Tap Tap Dance or Nine Inch Nails Revenge. If not, we offer convenient link to the App Store under Free Tracks > Premium Content. Once you have one of these premium editions installed on your iPhone/touch, head back to Free Tracks and scroll to the bottom. You’ll see new folders for each of the premium editions you’ve bought, and you can simply download those tracks, complete with their themes, into the free game (sorry, no boss track themes yet). So now you can have all of your tap tracks in one place!
- Points. In Tap Tap Revenge 2.5 you get points for every game you play – and more points for online games. Head over to the feed (the button below the main featured button) and you can see how many points you’ve accumulated and what level you’re at. In Tap Tap Revenge 3, you’ll be able to cool stuff with the points that you’re earning now.
- Battles are like Challenges, except that anyone can play them. To set up a battle, play a game, then click on the Challenge button, and mail it to battles@taptaprevenge.com. View all the live battles on the feed. You get points each time you play a battle – and more points when you set up a battle.
Tap on!

When I was reading this post I noticed nothing new I already knew. But now you guys just HYPED ME FOR TAP TAP REVENGE 3!!!!
I hope it’s $1 so we can finally use songs in our iPod and have an online store. I think you guys should charge it .99 for a month then give it a “free” sale for people that couldn’t download it.
Btw: Tap Tap 2.5 is AMAZING!!
May 23rd, 2009
@billyman: TTR3 is going to ROCK! But we have some more coolness up our sleeves even before then. There’s reason we have all those rockstar designers and developers, after all.

PS: If you love the game, please remember to write a review on the App Store and rate the game. (If you do not love the game, please take a moment to reflect on where you may have taken a wrong turn)

I absolutely love the premium track feature! Will the Christmas with Weezer tracks eventually be importable?
May 23rd, 2009
I think Tapulous should make a Tap Tap Linkin Park. That’ll be so cool!
I know a lot of people who would buy it. Even over amount of $3.00!
I took a survey in my school for an assignment and the ratio was 4:5.
May 23rd, 2009
I think it’s a great idea.

Erm, something isn’t right in this picture: http://i40.tinypic.com/35hqnww.jpg
May 24th, 2009
Wow, already hyping TTR3?
.
So can you give any hints about what level we have to reach to “buy” the best stuff? Sounds like Career mode is getting an extension like this!
I can’t wait!
Man, I’d love to take a look at your office, even just for 1 day, too bad I live in Holland :’(.
Tapulous, just to let you know, your last works were just perfect, keep to good work up!

my tap tap dance app is saying that i pirated the software and that i need to buy the app, i have legally bought this app from Itunes and haven’t got the message till this update and it wont let me play tap tap dance songs on TTR2 2.5, what should i do? love the update other than that though! (sorry thought i commented on this feed the first time)
May 24th, 2009
@Bart I still didn’t write my review yet (for ttr,2,coldplay, and dance) because I’m mostly on my iPod. When I got on my Computer later I’ll be sure to do it =)

I think the revenge-mode orbs blur together whenever they’re closely spaced. In the worst examples, the seem to form a long white line. Please bring back the solid outlines in 2.6.
May 24th, 2009
You just have to get used to the interface, luke. I had the same thing first but I’m over it, it’s just a great update!
May 24th, 2009
Anoesj-
It’s going to take me a long time to get used to the new interface. In some songs it’s no problem, but others that used to be manageable seem much harder now. I usually consider the ability to adapt to new layouts to be one of my strengths, but not in this case. Maybe it’s just a way of ttr2 letting me know I’m too old for this game….I do like the look of it, however, and it’s obvious that much work went into the update..
May 24th, 2009
2.5 is amazing. Love the new interface and colors. Yes in some songs it may seem a bit harder to get high score but it really is just about getting used to it. I’m actually doing a bit better on my scores since the 2.5. I know there much more to be done with this game;) So keep up the good work! Zach is cool haha. -aaron86v

Love 2.5 upgrade, looking forward to more. I REALLY like the target feedback. Helps me focus better and see where I miss(too often). Still waitin’ for that TapTap80’s. LOL

Can you please tell me why it says tap on the line but when I do I don’t get max points? And the color changing does not help one bit. I have no clue where to tap for max pts. At least in tt dance you could get the max pts in a song make it like tt dance or ttr coldplay so we know where to tap. Thx – PhantomPlanet
May 25th, 2009
it wont let me import my Coldplay songs.
May 25th, 2009
This has to be one of the best updates to Tap Tap Revenge I have seen yet. I LOVE how you guys made it so we can import our tracks into one application so that we don’t have to constantly be switching back and forth between different versions of Tap Tap Revenge. Love the visual tweaks and stability improvements too, it feels a lot smoother now. Great job Tapulous!

Hey guys, just thought I’d give you a heads up about something. I was cruising the audio portal on Newgrounds, and I found an artist that I believe would make a great addition to tap tap Thursday. He writes electronic/glitch music, and some of his songs are tappable to the point at which my thumbs are rocking along without the app : P
You can find him at kingbastard.newgrounds.com, and I’d reccomend talking to him about his album “little red book.”. Some amazing drum lines there.

Love TTR 2.5.
Something is wrong with the shakes though. I can’t get them right and they are ruining more score. Sometimes they don’t even register. This NEVER happened to me before.
I put my bid in for a classlica edition and a jazz edition. PLEASE!
Love you guys.
May 26th, 2009
Yes please Jazz editions and songs from…. AEROSMITH!!!
May 26th, 2009
TTR 1.6 was the best update ever in my opinion
ttr 2 built on that with better graphics and gameplay dynamics. Honestly, TTR 2.5 is the 2ND best update ever.
May 26th, 2009
Yeah! Add Aerosmith! That would be awesome!
May 27th, 2009
Just heard a very tappable song: “25 or 6 to 4″ by Chicago.
Please put it in the game – the full song, not the lame single version.

Finally ~ NO MORE CRASHING ~ 4/5 Stars ~
I have really been cross with this game in the past, but now things are looking good. I do still have some suggestions
~ Can we have a “Pause (II) (1 Tap Pause)” button within game play. I find that hitting two fingers on the screen at the same time is more likely to ruin any positive play you may be having. I always seem too get an itchy nose when I know I cant scratch it. lol
~ I have noticed that when a song is completed that there is quite a lag between pressing buttons and waiting for the next screens. This is the same if I play with the charger attached.
~ I have noticed that with the Premium Content button that the “Buy more tracks, then import in TTR” text is too long for the space provided. Maybe have just the Premium Button and then have it open further options which can display the Premium software and any instruction you may have.
~ I think that there are too many options in the “New Music” section. I have also noticed some problems in downloading upwards of 40 tracks at once…I sometimes get “Failed”, lose the track album cover and then have too download them individually.
~ Could you please explain the new points system on your website and why some people get 100+ points for winning and others get 3+.
Overall Tapulous, you are FINALLY moving forward.

have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it? just tap and hold the icon until all the icons start shaking, then click on the X mark.
