Tap Tap Revenge 2 UPDATE by Bart

Status Update – Sunday, 3PM PST: Status of the servers is still GREEN. It’s been smooth sailing for most of the weekend. We’re optimistic that the worst of our server hiccups may be behind us. Happy tapping!
Tap Tap Revenge 2.01 is on the way and will crash a lot less. One thing to be aware of: if you’re in an online room with more than 8 or so people, expect to crash – sorry, but stick to rooms with fewer people for now.
A huge THANKS to all of you for making Tap Tap Revenge 2 the #1 app on the App Store all over again! All of us here at Tapulous are really excited that the app is getting such a fantastic response.
We’re also struggling to keep up with the huge surge in downloads and network activity. Yesterday, in 24 hours, more than 250,000 people downloaded Tap Tap Revenge 2! To put this in perspective, when the App Store launched last July, on our biggest day in the #1 spot on the App Store, we saw 100,000 downloads. Today, things are getting a little more busy: over the last hour, we have been seeing 30 to 50 new downloads PER SECOND – yup, that’s 2,000-3000 new users PER MINUTE. Andrew and I walked out of a meeting and over to a Starbucks, and in those 30 minutes 70,000 new users came online.
What this means to you, the user: OUR SERVERS ARE SUFFERING!
Expect more network issues throughout the day. At some points, our servers may report back that we’re offline. Online Play may be unavailable most of today. When you go to download more tracks, you may not see any music listed, and reporting and viewing high scores on the global leaderboard may not work. That experimental chat feature we were playing with yesterday will also be down.
Twinkle users: This may cause connection issues and you may not be able to post or view updates. Any errors saying you have to login or add a device are only temporary, and normal service will resume when this is fixed.
We are hard at work addressing these issues and expect things to get better over the next day or two, even as more users install Tap Tap Revenge 2.
Other users are reporting occasional crashes and performance issues. Some of those are related to our network issues, so you may see some improvements there too as our network stabilizes. But while half of our team is working on network issues, the rest of the crew is hard at work finishing up Tap Tap Revenge 2.01. We hope to wrap up the engineering and testing on that as soon as today, and we hope that the update will be on the App Store within a few days. Expect Tap Tap Revenge 2.01 to address a lot of the crashing, and hopefully improve performance a bit as well.
We will keep this blog post updated over the next few days as things evolve – so please check back here from time to time for updates.

Hey so Ed, I went to an Apple certified store, and they said they still wouldn’t fix my iPhone because the warranty was expired……. And I am super mad because I want to plat Tap Tap 2! So, I don’t know how I can fix this because I can’t buy another iPhone because the contract doesn’t hold that I can replace an expired warranty iPhone or something…….

By “the servers will be up shortly”, do you mean a few hours or a few days? I have one record which I’d like to submit on my ipod which is currently paused (song just ended), but if there is little chance of being able to submit it soon, I’d just as soon kick out to the main menu and practice another song.

I am currently working on the next version of Twinkle. We are definitely addressing a lot of the community’s issues with it, and plan to put some serious love into it over the next couple of months. Keep your eyes peeled.

Relieved to hear that its the servers and not me thats causing connection issues.
I noticed that the Tap Tap server was online for a few seconds, but tye browser went spaZy so…
Cant wait for 2.0.1. TTR2 is amazing but incredibly glitchy at the moment – not that im surprised, bearing in mind how much power it needs. Im even rocking i 1st gen touch!

I downloaded the update for TTR2 and now both my TTR2 and My TTR are bugging…
I cant seem to log on to my Tapulous account…
It wont connect to my network and says its offline…
Its quite frustrating….

pretty much i thought it was my router not connecting to the server for tap tap 2… well god its annoying! crashes every time i play a song… i might have to say not even more than twice when it has to crashed on me… also i almost did perfect on Two Weeks by All that Remains but it lagged the freaken screen! well hoe 2.01 makes the game better… but still TTR2 is the best game on the App Store! hope you guys fix this problem.. and cant wait till i show everyone my #1 rank ^_^

Lol all I have to say is im an iPhone Beta Tester and I love most games that come out because I get to test them before released sadly this app was not the case however I do love this game I gotta say for only the second day being out and making Top 10 #1 thats pretty darn amazing.
– I was reviewing over both Tap Tap and Tap Tap 2 and I noticed the gameplay and notes are different in most songs but it adds to the extra level of suprize and gameplay as well as the revenge feature was nicly amped up on TT2
– however (yea I know here is the bad stuff) I noticed that both completing 18 Day on easy (testing purposes) and getting 100% note streak on TT2 there is 2 more notes in the whole song not that this is bad but neat but not only that the bad thing is I tried my best to get Revenge on both at same time which I succeeded in doing but shaking the device while taping can be hard and also the scoring is different in TT I got 230,300 in TT2 205,240 so some point differences.
– You wern’t kidding about the kids mode i visited an elementary school and had a few students try out the kids mode during their lunch time and all kids got 84+ percentage and they ass said they liked it because

3. Easy
4. One student said he liked the fact he felt like a musician because he tapped to the beat. (lol so cute)
So some minor issues can be improved in the tap tap 2 game play but overall good.

Thank you for the explanation, I totally understand what you guys are doing. I think, once the issues are straightened out, TTR2 will be my most played app, with new downloads every week, it’s hard to believe it’s free. On that note, for a free app, the work you put into it is incredible. I have no reason to complain about the issues. Thanks for the work, and communication. You guys are great!

Thank goodness!
I thought my iPod was glitching up so I restarted it twice, turned wifi on and off and even tried your website but none of them worked
Everything else that used the internet worked
Also, I tried deleting it and reinstalling it (that’s when I saw the message in the app description)
And my account wouldn’t transfer after reinstalling it (problem with iPod, or servers?)

A quick fix for TTR2 crashes: turn off auto-submit score to leadervoard. Cleared up offline play for me.

The upcoming update needs to have an option to simplify the background and/or expanding sphere hit rings. Nothing else will do, The lag is so bad that I practically have to close or defocus my eyes in certain parts of Double Down extended (always while holding a middle lane sphere and then tapping a certain one on the right) in order to not be influenced by the egregious warbling. Free or not, this game is still in a beta stage.

One more thing. I was wondering why it seems so easy to lose a streak in certain songs now, as compared to when I first installed ttr2 (btw- have also tried reinstalling) and then I realized that the better I’ve gotten at hitting certain spheres perfectly (i.e actually aiming for the middle of the hit circle), the greater the chance of suddenly losing a streak. One example of this is in Catch 22, which has many very closely spaced multi-tap pairs which, if hit perfectly together at once, produce large overlapping hit rings graphics, which I think cause a large hiccup that ends the streak. So maybe it is just the hit ring graphics that need to be subdued, and not as much the backgrounds.

In taptap there are two time slots that you can hit a note–when in 1x multiplier, one will result in 75 points and the other will result in the full 150 points, which is why Zachary is getting a lower score on TT2.
In taptapdance, even if you did a full streak, you would not always get 100%. I’m guess that this is because the TT2 engine (which TTDance uses) also measures WHEN you hit a note, not just IF you hit a note.

@exisling – You are correct that Tap Tap Revenge 2 has multiple levels of points per tap – the closer to the beat, the more points per tap.

This is indeed one of the best games I’ve ever played on iPod. It’s alot better than the ones u even buy five stars all the way!!
Some idea was maybe an option to add friends like be able to send them private messages or something. I know u guys got alot of stuff going on right now but maybe that would work in the future.
And maybe add a few rock song or something like red hot chille peppers or something, most of the songs that I downloaded i’ve never heard off

@Calvin – Thanks!!! We put a lot into it and we’re just glad everyone likes it. When our online services come back, you can add friends in the online rooms just by tapping on their username. In the feed you can enter the Tap Tap Revenge 2 chat and talk with other players. You can also add friends or send messages to other users in Twinkle.

One thing, when you go to the chat you meet some people that you would like to add they as friends after talking with them, but these is only possible when playing online room. Please, if you can make adding friends also during the chat it would be perfect. And if you could upload a song from My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Sum 41, 30STM… all those bands rock and would be awesome to play, even only one track, in TTR2.

Thanks guys it was working last night for me!!! However, this morning all the old problems are back (like saying it’s on offline mode, can’t do live play, can’t submit scores, etc.), so are the servers back down again???

Devs: your boss should be responding to these msgs and letting peeps know the real status while you are hard at work fixing the issues. General question: is anyone else out there experiencing freezes in some of the menus? Sometimes when I finish songs, the game kinda just freezes up and won’t let me hit any of the buttons (go back, play more, challenge a friend, etc.), and it’ll sometimes do the same thing when I’m trying to view the Career achievements. I try pressing the main menu button (the round thing with a square) but that also doesn’t work, and I either have to manually end the program by powering off the phone or holding down the round button until the program force quits. Is this a problem with the program or my phone? Thanks.

D.Sun: I also have “freezes” in some of the menus sometimes so you are not the only one. I also needed to power off the iPod or wait a time with the main menu buttom holded down. Also the career doesn’t work sometimes and get stuk like you have said. So it must be a problem of the app and not of your phone

If you encounter the problem of “menu freeze” after finish playing a song, simply turn off wifi to fix this problem. This is caused by the app trying to connect to the tapulous servers which are currently down.

i would like to say thank you for keeping us informed on the status of the server and not leaving us in the dark, next time u release an app like this please remember you will get ALOT of new users
i hope to be able to see the server up and running soon
some suggestions about a future update in TTR2:
Have the ability to choose different backgrounds (or different ones per difficulty). Have a enter chat room on the main menu (or in a play online menu). Go back to a simpler online layout like in TTR1. Rooms with the arrows turned off in online play (believe it or not my accelerometer broke and i cant get a high score with the arrows getting rid of my streak) Even have a “tap tap revenge 2 PTE” (premium track edition) (sold in a different app with artist refusing to have a free song in tap tap to get more popular songs while giving the option to download free songs as well) i know I’d buy it with the right tracks.

When I press the online
Button it said I don’t have a profile! so after all my work getting my achievments and rank to 87 it’s all gone and before that, the achievments weren’t even registering… I was working on the 25 songs with shakes and I did over 30 and it did not show up! I loved taptaprevenge but I am VERRY disapointed!

Yea I’m looking for the new update also, I’m constantly crashing cuz every1s adding me.
A few things I noticed, when ppl add u and u accept, it will show that you are online on there friends list, but u can’t see that person online on your friends, so basically you have to both add each other which is a pain.
After u play a song like maybe 10 times trying to beat the global highscore. Let’s say u are in number 1 on the global highscores. If u try to beat the score that you currently have,, and you fail like 6-7 times, the score on your last game will end up being on the highscore, while your best score gets erased. It happened to me.
That’s just something I spotted. People might want to view the highscores so there should be a button on the online play. saying leader board, and when u click it it can show a categoriess like easy, medium, etc. And they just click the east category and they can select a song they want to see.

I am glad I can finally be playing this now.
So fun although I encountered a problem on one of my online games, when the game started, it lagged, and the screen would refresh like every 3 seconds, then a bunch of times, when I join a room, after a few seconds, I get booted and the app crashes…
But it is still fun, I guess.

Hey guys, I have two questions, is the Hard Room ’s got only Hard songs?
Because I downloaded all the hard songs but when I play online in Hard room, sometimes I have to download (like : That Dude, Disgrace and others) and my connexion is slow so I can’t play it because the download has not finished.
And finally, do you plan to add an extreme room?

@nuic: we’re reviewing the playlists for all the rooms. In short: not necessarily. We haven’t put up Extreme rooms in online play because performance lags behind normal play.

@rich123 yea i agree with the extreme rooms suggestion songs in hard are a bit too easy…
=[ i keep crashing and i keep getting deranked for crashing… really annoying …. dropped from rank 43 to 102 last night…….. and currently at 55… hope 2.01 gets released soon.
the friend back thing doesn’t work either… i checked it out and it doesn’t actually add them back as friend.

oh yea and some of the achievements don’t work such as polaroid… I’m pretty sure i’ve played more than 50 songs with shakes on.. soo….. i guess it needs patching lol
same with the consecutive days acheivements.. i’ve played tap tap everyday since release unless u wana count a day as a milli-second XDDD

Yea I want to know what’s up with the rankings I was rank 50 and 2 hours later I dropped 98,234. And so I played and went back to 1200, and this morning I’m at 93,110 right now. Please help

Hey Calvin, the only reason you are losing your rank is because other people are playing, and getting more global points than you are. It’s not Tapulous’ fault, it’s other users just getting a bunch more points. If you really want to be number one, i suggest you aim for the songs you can get a good score in, around 650,000+. When your rank gets a little higher, aim for 700,000+ points. Those songs will boost up your points decently, so u can get a better global ranking. That should fix your ranking problem!
